Thank you from the Edina Public Art Committee (a committee of the Edina Art Center Board).

Art is the soul of our culture.

Public art in urban environments can be a unifying force because it transforms our space into a more welcoming and beautiful environment that invites interaction. It attracts attention, expresses community values and can transform a city's image. An entire community's identity and unique character can be defined by public art. In addition to its enriching personal benefits, public art increases a community's assets and can boost real estate values and create opportunities for local businesses to thrive.

What is the Edina Public Art Committee?

The residents of Edina have a strong sense of community and a love of culture and the arts. This public art program began in 2004 as a committee of the Edina Art Center Board. The Edina Public Art Committee is comprised of residents and City staff who love and have experience in graphic and fine art with the purpose of advising the City Council in regard to all matters pertaining to public arts within the community.

Goals include:

  • Build awareness and pride in community heritage
  • Serve as a vehicle for public education in the visual arts.
  • Make recommendations for creative fund-raising mechanisms to public art displays.
  • Promote economic development through the arts.

Members of the Committee are Chair Lois Ring, Bernice Amacher, Pat Beaver, Chip Jones, Barbara La Valleur, Mark Lidke, Naomi Griffith, Amy Kerber, Bill McCabe and Anne Spooner.
